Harvest Festivities Held Across the Dales

The Dales, and many lands further afield celebrate Chauntea's holy day of Highharvestide.

In Mistledale, folk came in from a fruitful harvest to worship at the great cathedral at the Abbey of the Golden Sheaf, and the High Harvestmaster sent Watchful Brothers and Sisters across the Dales to preside over blessings and collect donations.

In Battledale, Lord Jarath Burlisk held a festival at the grounds of Aencar's Keep - as is tradition. Fine ales, mulled ciders, and rich wines were served courtesy of Bram Tantul's brewery, with food supplied by Essembran inns including the Watchful Eye's Malrit sisters and the Thynd family of the Silver Tap. Local merchants set up stalls and peddled their wares, while local bards played music to accompany the festivities and music to dance to.

After some brief speeches by Watchful Brother of the Earth Tucker Frye, Lord Jarath Burlisk gave a rousing speech to the jolly masses and Peacemarshal Fiosane began the contests! As usual, a pie-eating contest was held and, in a shock and surprise, popular successful contestant and previous title holder Heliott the mage ended up knocked out first! The rest of the contest was extremely close - hearty strong lads going bite for bite until only two remained. Then, in the next round, the two finalists could eat no more at the same time. Another shock - the pie-eating contest ended in a draw between Marshall Merendil of the Dragonguard and Shug Hammerfell. They walk away with the privelege of free drinks courtesy of Tantul's Brewery for the winter.

Next up, popular Illusionist Pogo Bunions came with a new act for this festival; giving a series of devilish riddles to the crowd with some very generous prices available. Several young Essembran lads lucky enough to win a purse of coin each for their families, while Baranya won another in feats of cleverness! As ever, Pogo's clown-like appearance and jovial manner proved popular with the common folk - especially the children - and this particular show will no doubt be talked of all season long among the lucky few as they enjoy their winnings!

The next contest was the archery, with Baranya of the Red Knight keen to best her elven competitors and win her title back. Alas, it was not to be her day as of the two elven adventurers, the wood elf Keryth Whitebloom shot an unbeatable first round including two bulls eyes. His prize was a quiver of beautifully made magical arrows which he swore to use in battle against the dark elves - a sentiment many Tempurans in the area were pleased to hear!

Finally, the showman Rundo the Bear Wrangler and his bear left the ring to allow for some boxing to take place! Martial competitions are always extremely popular in Battledale and a good crowd gathered to cheer on their favourite in the boxing ring. In some unusual match-ups, the winner's belt was taken by Marshall Merendil (now recovered - or well fueled? - from his pie eating earlier in the day), with dwarven knight Brenva Ironcreek in second place and popular Mantle member Ron Fairfax third. However, plenty of young local lasses were keen to come cheer the winner and console poor Ron.

Finally, the Peacemarshal declared no joust to be held this autumn on account of ground conditions. However, Lord Jarath has expressed interest in holding a joust after he winter and so any prospective jousters are advised to train their steeds and themselves to participate in a contest. Given the previous grand prizes offered to jousters in Battledale over recent years, locals and adventurers both should have quite some incentive to work on their horsemanship this winter!

Her skin is pale, her eyes are red,
Her leaden voice commands the dead,
To rise and stand beside their dreadful queen.
No mortal power escapes her thrall,
Her hunger will consume us all,
And even now I hear her call: Jolene
