The Rauvedon Challenge
« on: July 23, 2011, 06:11:13 PM »
Posters appear in Ashabenford, Blackfeather Bridge, Essembra and Feather Falls.

For all those willing to test their mettle in an open tournament of duelling skill and bravery, the Rauvedon Challenge awaits!

This newly instituted event will be held over the course of each month with the victor earning the right to flaunt the champion's cloak of finest Arabel silk for the following month.

Those interested in challenging for the title of Highsun's Rauvedon Champion should sign below before Midsummer, on which day the first pairings will be announced. These matched pairs will have until the fifteenth day of Highsun to determine a victor.  Depending on the number of challengers, a second round may follow, to be completed by the twenty first day of Highsun.

Pairs may agree on any rules for their encounter that they wish.  If they cannot agree, the "Rauvedon Rules" will apply:
- ambushes - the bout must be held at an agreed place and time and both challengers should indicate their readiness to begin;
- killing - the victor will be the first to land four blows on their opponent, failure to stop on reaching this count will result in loss of the bout;
- sportsmanship - a challenger may call a halt to either heal a serious wound or forfeit the bout, failure to respect such a call will result in loss of the bout;
- magic spells and magical weapons, shields and armour are permitted, otherwise no enchanted artefacts may be worn or otherwise used, wounds inflicted by spells will not count; and
- melee - no ranged or thrown weapons may be used.

The victorious challengers will be invited to determine the Rauvedon Champion of Highsun by further matched bouts to be held on the last day of Highsun at the glade known as the Fighting Circle in the Rauvdeon Hills.  All of these final bouts will be fought under the Rauvedon Rules, unless both challengers agree on variations.  One additional rule will be applied regardless, no challenger may leave the circle of stones during a bout.

All, challengers and any others wishing to enjoy the spectacle, will be very welcome to spectate at the finals.  Highsun's supplier of refreshments to be announced!

Any enquiries should be sent to Corym at the Dusty Dragon Pottery, Elven Crossing or the Oaken Door, Oaknoll or to Deliaven at the Lonely Mermaid, Essembra.

Will you take up the Rauvedon Challenge?!

Real timings as follows:
- entries submitted by 31 July;
- first round pairings announced on 1 August;
- first round completed by 15 August;
- pairings for the finals (or second round) announced on 16 August;
- if required, second round completed by 21 August with finals pairings to follow asap;
- finals to take place on or around 31 August, depending on player availability/time zones etc.

Entries and first/second round results should be sent by PM to both me and JJPSX.  When entering a character, please include an OOC bit indicating the PC's class(es) and level(s).

Feel free to make relevant IC posts in this thread but keep entries to PMs.  One idea is for pairs to publish the time and place of their bouts here so an audience (and, if necessary, an adjudicator!) can show up and make a mini-event of it.  This might work particularly well if people can arrange for a few pairs to duel one after the other.

Please do not trouble the DM team or Eredruie with PMs about this.  JJSPX and I are happy to answer questions by PM and are often in the IRC channel at a broad range of time zones between us.

Happy duelling!

A 'main event' for group finals will be taking place on Saturday the 3rd of September

The time: 3pm EST / 8pm GMT / noon PST

Location: the Rauvedon Fighting Circle

Thanks to all those who have entered so far.  Moving the closing date for entries to 7 August in the hope of a few more people signing up.

*Carefully written in pretty handwriting*

Let it be known that Pyote got several pieces of his body handed back to him.  Despite probably being the better of the two men.  Go figure.  Anyway, Jin'Cathul advances to the next round.

*Penned in with superb penmanship*

In the bout of Juliana and Joshua, Joshua was victorious, for the glory of the Triad.

(If there are any other bouts that are outstanding, it would be a good idea to get them done soon as you can so that JJPSX and Xephis can arrange the finals!)

Her skin is pale, her eyes are red,
Her leaden voice commands the dead,
To rise and stand beside their dreadful queen.
No mortal power escapes her thrall,
Her hunger will consume us all,
And even now I hear her call: Jolene

I am very suddenly having to work.  So I can't make any of those times.  I will be home around 5:30 Central US time.   Sorry.
