The trouble with Essembra...
« on: April 08, 2011, 04:20:18 PM »
Essembra, Battledale's largest and most prosperous town. Though her people are peaceful craftsfolk who have held better than some dales to the old Compact and weathered many storms - physical and metaphorical - over the years, the past six months have been difficult for the one-bright capital of Aencar's united dales and have ground weary lines into the faces of even the most hardy of Essembra's folk.

The rampages of a red dragon that culminated in the slaying of the elves of Tangled Vale, the poisoning of revellers at the Tourney of Saint Ambrose, periodic drow raids, banditry south of town high as it has ever been, a wraith plaguing travellers by night on the roads, the vampire who had attempted to claim the tower on Haptooth Hill, the Talontar blighting the crops of Hap, and now these strange nightmares that befall those who visit the township... These are the difficulties that adventurers have heard of, yet the folk of Essembra have long looked to their lord, Ilmeth Wyvernblade, to protect them and deliver them from their troubles and he has always done so - until now.

Since the Tourney, Lord Ilmeth has been seen less and less in public. His staff are uptight, disinclined to speak as freely as once they might have. The Lord's Men are patrolling even the lesser-trod streets of the town in an effort to keep the peace. The restless youth of Essembra are showing a marked dissatisfaction with the rule of an old man apparently, as they see it, too frightened for himself to care for his charges. Whispers behind closed doors have grown in volume until now you find entire tables in the festhalls and taverns full of young men and women discussing the failings of their lord and considering the future. Ilmeth has no heir, he choses not to name an heir, is it time to retake Essembra for the people and remove a lineage that dies with this fattened old man?

A rally has been called by this 'underground' of youth, hoping to draw Ilmeth from his keep to defend his perceived inaction. Travellers have brought the news south, finding ears with the tavern-keepers and thus has the adventuring community come to hear of it. Could they, instead of sedition, be the poultice for the township's ailments?

OOC: This will be held on

Her skin is pale, her eyes are red,
Her leaden voice commands the dead,
To rise and stand beside their dreadful queen.
No mortal power escapes her thrall,
Her hunger will consume us all,
And even now I hear her call: Jolene
